The 2022 vintage release of the Best Lot Malbec is unique in that its the first time The Best Lot isnt a single vineyard selection.
Two vineyards, one in Langhorne Creek, the other in the Southern Fleurieu were chosen and blended for the 2022 Best Lot Malbec.
Despite being separated by almost 100km, both vineyards share several threads in common. Both vineyards enjoy a view of the sea!
They also both share the same CLONE of Malbec, being clone CW14.
Some grape varieties, particularly Pinot Noir are famed for being quite mutant. In a similar manner is Malbec, though not quite as prolificly mutant as Pinot! For the wine geeks read my blog post Attack of the Clones for a deeper dive on Malbec clones.
The 2022 Best Lot Malbec is a fine, long and graceful wine, belying its power.
Super fragrant and pretty with aromas ranging from fresh blueberries to blackberry, autumn leaves and a whiff of cocoa.
Bright cherry, cedar and a wiff of meatiness polished by maturation in 30% new French oak frames the savory palate.
Katrina Butler on winecompanion.com.au though this wine would be a "dear friend to Argentine barbeque". Who am I to disagree!
